CoolSculpting Before and Afters Gallery

CoolSculpting

If you have a healthy weight but still struggle to get the body shape you desire, CoolSculpting is a reliable and safe option to help you reach your goals. Certain markers in fat cells determine which areas will slim down with diet and exercise, and unfortunately cannot be changed. However, CoolSculpting offers a way to eliminate stubborn fat and achieve permanent results.

CoolSculpting targets the fat cells that other weight loss techniques cannot and eliminates those fat cells permanently and safely, and you won’t have any downtime or recovery after body contouring either.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared fat-reduction treatment that uses a patented technique to freeze and rid the body of unwanted fat cells — the fat cells diet and exercise can’t eliminate. Your medical provider can perform your CoolSculpting procedure during your Spa Sydell visit, and you can immediately return to your busy day and enjoy your active lifestyle — without downtime or recovery — as your body eliminates your unwanted fat.

The Science Behind CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting permanently destroys the fat cells it targets. Your body contouring procedure will deliver controlled cooling to targeted fat cells, freezing them but leaving adjacent cells unharmed. These frozen fat cells will die, and your body will eliminate them permanently. They will not regenerate.

If you gain weight in the future, it will occur evenly throughout your body and not in areas treated by CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting originated from two forward-thinking dermatologists, Dr. Dieter Manstein and Roz Anderson, from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. They noted two cases of fat loss from exposure to cold.

The first was in 1970 in the New England Journal of Medicine, an infant developed Panniculitis, inflammation in the subcutaneous fat, after having a popsicle rest on the inside of her cheek for five minutes. Then in 1980, published in JAMA Dermatology, female equestrians developed Panniculitis on their outer thighs after riding horses for long periods in cold weather.

Combining these reports with their own research findings, Drs Manstein and Anderson developed their own hypothesis called Cryolipolysis, which is a selective, cold-induced injury to fat cells, while sparing the surrounding tissues, including skin, muscles, and nerves.

What are the benefits of CoolSculpting?

A CoolSculpting treatment has many benefits. It can:

  • Permanently eliminate unwanted body fat
  • Improve your body’s tone and contours
  • Leave adjacent muscle and skin tissues unharmed
  • Compliment your healthy diet and exercise routines

How Does It Work?

Lipids within adipose cells crystalize during the cooling process. This injury causes apoptosis, or programmed cell death, which occurs over the first few days. The resulting inflammatory and wound healing process stimulates white blood cells, called macrophages, to engulf and digest the dead fat cells over the next several months, resulting in a gradual, visible fat layer reduction.

This technology is used to eliminate subcutaneous fat in several areas. There is no damage to the skin during this procedure.

What areas does CoolSculpting treat?

CoolSculpting can safely and effectively treat:

  • Submental area
  • Thighs
  • Knees
  • Abdomen and flanks
  • Bra fat
  • Back fat
  • Lower buttocks area (“banana roll”)
  • Arms, upper arms, under bicep ("bat wings")

What Happens to Fat Post Procedure?

The fat looks completely normal post-procedure. This is because the fat cells have been fatally injured but in a subtle way.

  • After 3 days the procedure initiates the apoptotic cascade, and the cells will begin to die. The inflammatory cells then begin to infiltrate the fat.
  • At 7 days after the procedure, the inflammation increases. It continues to intensify over the next 2 weeks to 30 days. Beyond that, the fat cells begin to appear misshapen and are eliminated through the body.
  • By 90 days, most injured fat cells have been removed.

Over 100 peer-reviewed journals have shown CoolSculpting body contouring does not damage the epidermis, dermis, nerves, or blood vessels.

Am I a Good Candidate For CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a way for individuals at a healthy weight to lose the last few pounds from common problem areas and improve their body contours. CoolSculpting is not a method to achieve radical or substantial weight loss. If you have significant weight to lose, you can still consider CoolSculpting as a final step in improving your body contours after you have reached a healthy weight.

While most healthy individuals can have a CoolSculpting treatment, talk to your medical provider if you have one of the following conditions, which are contraindicative for a CoolSculpting procedure: cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease and paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. If you do have one of these rare conditions, your provider can discuss other options.

CoolScultping has not been studied on children, women who are pregnant or lactating, those with hernias in or around the area to be treated, or those with diabetic neuropathy.

CoolSculpting Questions

What can I expect during my CoolSculpting procedure?

CoolSculpting safely delivers controlled cooling which gently and effectively targets fat cells beneath the skin’s surface layer. Treated fat cells freeze then die, and your body will naturally process and eliminate these dead cells over time, leaving you looking more trim and sculpted. During your treatment session, your provider will apply a gel pad and applicator to your target areas.

The CoolSculpting applicator will then deliver controlled cooling to the fat you’ve chosen to target. CoolSculpting is very comfortable, and you can read, use your smartphone or nap during your procedure if you like. Afterwards, your provider will perform a manual massage on the treated area. This improves the efficacy of the procedure by up to 68%.

Does CoolSculpting have any downtime?

No. CoolSculpting is a fast, noninvasive procedure that requires no downtime.

Numbness in the area treated may be mild and temporary and can last up to three weeks. However, it generally does not impact a person's daily activities. You can leave Spa Sydell and resume normal activities with no aftercare requirements.

You may need additional body contouring treatments depending on your goals. Your provider will get in touch with you 24 hours after each appointment. They will answer any questions you may have and arrange a follow-up visit. Treatment photos will be taken, the results reviewed, and the treated areas will be reassessed at the follow-up to assure you are completely satisfied and to determine if additional treatments are needed. It doesn't matter if you're CoolSculpting arms or abs, there is no downtime.

When will I see my CoolSculpting results?

Some patients may begin to see some improvements after three weeks. The majority of individuals will have their results around eight weeks after treatment. Improvements will continue to develop for up to six months in some patients.

The lymphatic system in your body will start to get rid of the fat cells that were damaged by CoolSculpting. This will happen in the weeks following the treatment. As this process continues, you will start to experience the toning and contouring results of your body contouring procedure.

How long will my CoolSculpting results last?

Over time, your body will eliminate these dead fat cells, and they will not regenerate. It is permanent.
